Teeth Whitening

cosmetic dentistry teeth whitening clifton ny

Are your teeth not as bright as they used to be? Overtime teeth can darken because of food and drink, tobacco use, age, trauma to the mouth even some medications can alter the color of teeth.  At Grape Lakes Family Dental we want to help restore your natural white smile and have a variety of options to do just that.

Whitening products contain either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.  These bleaches attack the stains on your teeth and break them up into smaller pieces that will make the color less concentrated and brighten your teeth.

In-office bleaching or chair-side bleaching typically is completed in one office visit. A bleach is applied to the teeth and a special light or laser is then used to enhance the action of the whitening agent.

At-home bleaching options include peroxide-containing whiteners will bleach the tooth enamel. This comes in the form of a gel and is placed in a tray that fits on your teeth, whitening strips that stick on your teeth are also used. At-home treatments have a lower concentration of bleaching agent than you would get during an in-office treatment.

Nothing improves your appearance more than a bright, white smile!

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns

A dental crown is used to cover a tooth that is either damaged, decayed, or cracked. A crown also is used to cover dental implants. Crowns are also used to improve a tooth’s appearance, attach dental bridges and protect weak teeth from breaking or to restore an already broken tooth. Crowns come in a variety of materials and can be blended to match the natural color of your teeth.

The typical treatment plan for a crown placement includes:

    1. An impression of your teeth is made to create a custom-made crown (typically takes two weeks and two office visits).
    2. The tooth is numbed to remove the decay in and around it.
    3. Re-shaping the tooth to create an ideal fit for the crown.
    4. A temporary crown is placed onto the tooth during the interim period while the custom crown is being made.
    5. The temporary crown is removed and the custom-made crown is placed onto the tooth.
    6. When the crown is properly placed it will then be cemented into place.

A crown placement is done over a three or four-week period and typically two or three office visits. With proper oral hygiene, that includes daily brushing and flossing your crowns can last a lifetime.

    Bridges

If you’re missing one or more of your teeth, a bridge can fill the space and restore your smile. Bridges can be fixed or removable and replace missing teeth with artificial teeth.

A bridge may be used to prevent a shifting of the teeth, due to a missing tooth, leading to bite problems that can result in periodontal disease. Bridges can also protect the whole mouth, by helping to maintain a vibrant and healthy smile.

    Dental Implants

Dental implants are effective and long-term way to replace missing teeth and restore your smile.  Implants are made of titanium and other materials that are safe and compatible with the human body. The implant post is surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw and is an anchor for the replacement teeth.

The process of a dental implant generally takes place in three phases:

    • The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone.
    • The process of healing for the implant is called osseointegration, this means that the implant combines with the bone. This process takes time, sometimes up to several months. The healing of the implant needs to be completed before the replacement tooth can be placed on the implant.
    • The last phase is the placement of the replacement tooth. Your customized tooth, called a dental crown has been created based on the size, shape, color and fit to blend with your other teeth. If more than a single tooth is being replaced, then a custom bridge or denture is made and placed in your mouth.

    Post Implant Care

After receiving dental implants, proper oral hygiene is strongly recommended to maintain good dental health. Bacteria can cause gums to swell and the jaw bone to recede, a recessed jawbone will weaken the implants. We advise implant patients to visit our office at least twice a year to ensure healthy teeth and implants.

Dental implants may be the solution for you and if you’re interested, we recommend discussing this carefully with Drs. Labrecque and Charles.  Please call the office to schedule an appointment.

    Composite Bonding

If you have chipped or cracked teeth, unsightly gaps or spaces between teeth, discoloration or faded areas on the surface of your teeth then bonding could be the solution for you. Some of the advantages of composite bonding include

    • Time saving process, typically lasting less than one hour.
    • The tooth's original structure is not reduced.
    • The composite resins are mixed to match the shades of your natural tooth color.
A composite bond is not as durable or long-lasting as veneers and crowns and they stain more easily resulting in a need for proper care and cleaning.
